Las Vegas has no shortage of IT companies. What it has a shortage of is IT partners — providers who answer the phone, know your business, and take responsibility for outcomes instead of tickets. If you are evaluating managed service providers (MSPs), these are the questions that separate the two.
Questions about support
1. Who actually answers when my employees call? Some MSPs route calls to an outsourced overflow center. Ask whether the helpdesk is the provider's own staff and where they sit.
2. Is onsite support included? In a market as spread out as the Las Vegas valley — Henderson to Summerlin to North Las Vegas — this matters. If every onsite visit is billable, "unlimited support" is marketing.
3. What is your average response and resolution time? A serious provider tracks both and will show you the numbers. Vague answers here predict vague accountability later.
4. What happens after hours? Casinos, restaurants, medical practices, and property managers do not stop at 5 p.m. Find out what 24/7 actually covers.
Questions about security
5. What security is included in the base agreement? In 2026, endpoint detection and response, email filtering, MFA enforcement, and ransomware protection are table stakes — not premium add-ons. If security is an upsell tier, the provider's incentives are wrong.
6. Do you train our employees? Over 90% of successful attacks start with a phishing email. Ongoing security awareness training with simulated phishing is the cheapest risk reduction available.
7. How do you verify our backups? "We back you up" is not the same as "we test restores." Ask when they last performed a test restore for a client and how long recovery took.
Questions about fit
8. Do you know our industry? A provider who supports dental practices knows Eaglesoft and Dentrix and HIPAA. One who supports AEC firms knows Revit workstations and large-file workflows. Industry experience shortens every conversation you will ever have with them.
9. How many clients do you support, and for how long? Longevity and client count are the closest thing to a track record you can verify. Ask for references in your industry — then actually call them.
10. Who owns strategy? A real partner runs quarterly reviews, maintains a technology roadmap, and helps you budget — CIO-level thinking, not just break-fix labor.
Questions about money
11. What is NOT included? The clearest question you can ask. Get the exclusions in writing: onsite visits, after-hours work, projects, hardware, licensing.
12. What does leaving look like? Confident providers make offboarding clean — documentation handed over, passwords released, no hostage-taking. A provider who makes it hard to leave is telling you something.
Red flags to walk away from
- Long-term contracts with steep early-termination penalties before they have proven anything
- No mention of security in their core offering
- "Unlimited" support with an asterisk
- They cannot name another client in your industry
- Every conversation is with a salesperson, never an engineer
